About This Program

The online major in Global Security and International Affairs is designed as an academically challenging and comprehensive interdisciplinary curriculum combining an extensive and in-depth study of core concepts, principles, and practices of international affairs and security studies. Unlike existing programs in the Florida SUS, FAMU is the only university offering a major in the field. The B.A. degree requirement includes 12 credit hours in a foreign language. The program allows students to focus on the most pressing global challenges of the 21st Century, including national security (intelligence studies) and international studies. The curriculum, as developed, is designed to prepare students for internationally-focused careers in government, non-profits, and the private sectors.

 


Degree Requirements

The major in Global Security and International Affairs requires a total of 120 credit hours. Students must complete all University general education requirements. In addition, majors must complete required major courses, including American National Government, Comparative Government, International Relations, Contemporary Africa, Government & Politics of Latin America and the Caribbean, American Foreign Policy, National Security Policy, Scope and Methods, Senior Research Seminar, Introduction to Professional Development and Advanced Professional Development, 9 hours of major electives, and 12 hours of foreign language.

A minor concentration is required of all students majoring in Global Security and International Affairs. The minor requires eighteen (18) credit hours in an approved discipline. The curriculum for the minor follows the requirements specified by the minor discipline.
