Jeffrey S. Wilkinson is a Professor of Journalism at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee,
Florida. He completed a B.S. in Broadcasting from the University of Florida and worked
as an award-winning broadcast news reporter before earning both a Master's and Ph.D.
from the University of Georgia. He taught at the University of Tennessee, earning
tenure, then moving to Hong Kong in 1998. He spent 10 of the next 12 years teaching
and researching mass media in China and Hong Kong.
In 2004, he returned to the US to co-author Principles of Convergent Journalism and
co-edit Understanding Media Convergence, both published by Oxford University Press.
In 2007, he returned to Asia to head the international journalism program at United
International College in Zhuhai, China. The following year, as Dean of the Division
of Humanities and Social Sciences, he launched a new program in public relations and
advertising.
In 2010 he returned to the US, serving as program chair and department chair at Houston
Baptist University and the University of Toledo. He returned again to China in 2017
as Associate Dean of academics for the Sino-U.S. College at the Beijing Institute
of Technology, Zhuhai. He currently holds a leadership role in the Broadcast Education
Association International Division. He teaches reporting and writing, media ethics,
media technology, media literacy, and international communication.
